Christmas Gear Picks (The Gifts I’m Actually Giving This Year)

8 gifts I’m really gifting this Christmas — and the stories behind them.

Hey, Johannes from GearUpYourLife here…

and today’s issue is a little different… and honestly, a little risky.
Because if the wrong friends, or even worse, my girlfriend read this email, every single Christmas surprise I’ve planned is officially ruined.

Luckily, I’ve never actually seen any of them read anything I write… which should probably worry me a bit, but for this email it’s absolutely perfect 😅. And since last week’s Black Friday “Wishlist” absolutely blew up and so many of you loved it, I thought:
why not make a part two — the Christmas edition.

So here we go:
8 Christmas Gifts I’m 100% giving this year… and for the first time in my life, I’m actually early. 🎄😂

🎁 1. To my Mum — TravelPro Maxlite 5

My mum has used the same suitcase for as long as I can remember.
I don’t even want to guess how old it is.
And her last excuse for not traveling was literally:
“I don’t even have a real suitcase anymore.”

So this year, I’m removing that excuse forever.
I want her to finally take the trips she keeps talking about — and a proper, lightweight carry-on is the first step.
Sometimes the best gift is simply giving someone a reason to go again.

🎁 2. To a Friend — Evergoods CAP2 Tech Pouch

Not all my friends are full-time travelers, but this one studies 90 minutes away from home — and when I picked him up last time, he was holding:

  • his MacBook

  • three charging cables

  • two adapters

  • and his over-ear AirPods…
    all in one single hand.

In the other hand? Books.

So yeah — it was time.
The CAP2 will finally fix the chaos he’s been carrying around every day.

🎁 3. My American Friend — Delta Airlines Gift Card

This one sounds strange for most readers — especially since almost 70% of you are from the US.
But I’ve only been to the States twice, and that’s something I really want to change.

Realistically though, he’ll visit me in Germany way before I visit him again… so instead of buying fixed flights that limit everything, I’m gifting him Delta credit.
He can use it whenever he wants, on any trip.
Simple, flexible, and actually useful.

🎁 4. A Friend — NayoSmart Herman Pro

He always compliments this Bag but refuses to buy one because
“Bro, it’s just a bag.”

Perfect.
Now he’s getting one, the Herman Pro.
Clean design, durable materials, and the perfect everyday carry.
He’ll use it constantly, and I already know it’ll slowly become his favorite thing without him admitting it.

🎁 5. My Grandpa — 3D Wood World Map (The Wood Store)

My grandpa is the reason I fell in love with travel.
He’s been almost everywhere real old-school exploring, with stories that sound like movies.
He doesn’t travel as much anymore, mostly within Europe, and he already owns everything he needs for those trips.

So this year I wanted something symbolic.
A gift that reminds him of all the places he has seen, and still shows the world that’s out there.
It looks beautiful, fits perfectly in his office, and it’s a piece he’ll see every day.

🎁 6. My Girlfriend — Audible Subscription

Whenever I discover something new, my girlfriend watches me quietly for a while.
It’s like she’s trying to decide whether she wants it too without saying a word.
And over the years, I’ve learned exactly when she does.

This time I’m sure.
She travels, studies, works, walks everywhere — and audiobooks are perfect for that.
Plus, the $0.99 for 3 months deal is ridiculous.
It just makes sense.

🎁 7. My Girlfriend — Kindle Paperwhite

She’s a massive bookworm.
She buys books everywhere from tiny shops in Argentina to random airport bookstores and reads everything from romance to true crime to self-improvement.

But traveling with physical books is a nightmare.
They take up so much space, and outside of big cities it’s hard to find the right languages.
Here in Greece, for example, almost impossible.

So this year, she’s finally getting a Kindle.
Lightweight, distraction-free, and perfect for long travel days.

🎁 8. My Girlfriend — Sony XM5 Headphones

This is the big one.
She steals mine constantly, and after using them every single day here in Greece, I finally ordered her a pair.
She would never buy them for herself and her AirPods are basically dying after four years.

Premium comfort, clean sound, and honestly the biggest upgrade for studying, long walks, and travel days.
And right now they’re under $300, which is crazy considering how good they are.

So, I hope you enjoyed this slightly more personal edition — and that it didn’t completely ruin my Christmas surprise plans 😅.
And if you still don’t know what to gift this year, I’ve got you covered:
