This Story Made Me Rethink Everything

A Story Bigger Than Gear: From Copenhagen to Michigan

Hey, Johannes from GearUpYourLife here—

and this Sunday’s different.

Normally, I write these emails myself.
But today, the words come from someone else—a mom from this community who packed her life into a few suitcases… twice.

Her story reminded me why I started GearUpYourLife in the first place.
And why the Gear Vault Bundle is now completely free.

Now—here’s Alex’s journey. 🌍

Hi Johannes,

I just wanted to say thank you for everything you’re doing with GearUpYourLife.
I’ve been quietly reading your newsletters for a few months now – sometimes on the couch after putting my daughter to bed, sometimes late at night when I can’t sleep because my mind won’t shut off.

We just moved. Again.
After a few years in Copenhagen, we came back to the U.S.
New job. New state. New everything.

This time, it hit different.
Maybe because my daughter’s old enough now to ask why her bed looks different… why the windows don’t face the same way…
Maybe because I’m exhausted in a way that sleep doesn’t fix.

And here’s the part that made me laugh and cry:
Somewhere in the middle of the chaos – the boxes, the movers, the missing socks – I packed my passport...
in a cereal box.

Not kidding.
I was trying to be clever. Keep it “safe.”
Took me three hours and one minor panic attack to find it. 😅

But here’s the truth: I think I was trying to pack more than just stuff.
I was trying to pack security. Familiarity. Maybe even a version of myself that still felt calm and in control.

We talk so much about travel as escape, as joy—and it is. But for some of us, it’s also starting over.
It’s closing doors.
It’s letting go of the things we couldn’t carry.

Anyway…
I don’t really have a packing tip to offer.
Just this: take a deep breath. Let your suitcase be light.
You’ll carry enough already.

Thanks for reading.

✍️ Johannes:

When I read this message, I knew instantly what I needed to do.

I've been thinking about the Gear Vault Bundle a lot lately.
I poured months into it—over 75 gadgets, 9 full packing guides, and 25 travel tip cards.
I launched it for $18. Almost 100 people bought it in just two days. (Of course: everyone will be fully refunded.)

But this newsletter… this message from Alex… reminded me why I built it in the first place.
It was never about the money.
It was about helping people pack lighter—physically and emotionally.

So starting today, the Gear Vault Bundle is 100% free.

If it makes even one trip easier… or one story more memorable… then it’s done its job.

→ [Download the Bundle for Free]
(Just head to the site, click “I want this,” type in “0” and download. That’s it.
If you want to pay something like 1€, that’s also okay.
But this is truly free—no tricks, no pressure.)

Whether it’s the best packing cubes or a Sunday story from someone halfway across the world—
I'm grateful you're here.
See you next week.
— Johannes
