What I Packed for 4 Days in London
The exact bags, gear, and gadgets I packed for four days in the city.
Hey, Johannes from GearUpYourLife here.
And today I’m taking you along for another “What I Pack” edition — this time for four days in London.
When this newsletter goes live, I’ll unfortunately already be back in Germany. The main reason for that is something I completely overlooked before the trip: my regular SIM card simply didn’t work in the UK, and the Wi-Fi where I stayed was so slow that uploading the video planned for Sunday would have taken around 17 hours, plus processing time, basically an entire day gone.
But since the “What I Pack for Ghent” edition was received so well, I thought it would be fun to show you exactly what I bring when I’m spending a few days in a large city especially when I’m flying instead of just taking the train.
Before we jump into the gear though, I wanted to share a few photos from earlier that same day.
Right before flying to London, I actually went alpaca hiking here in Germany.
And even though I’ve traveled quite a bit, including places like the Andes I somehow never had any real contact with alpacas before.
So it was a pretty fun and surprisingly relaxing experience, as you’ll probably see in the photos below.
But without talking too much — let’s get into the actual question:
What did I pack for four days in London?
What I Packed for 4 Days in London
Bags & Packing Setup
First things first — the bags and pouches I brought with me.
For the flight I decided to use the NayoSmart UL2 Sling Bag, with my Nanobag clipped to it. The sling is extremely light, which makes it perfect not only for the flight but also for walking around the city during the day. Everything I needed for the flight fits inside it — which I’ll show you in more detail later.
As my main backpack I brought the NayoSmart Herman Pro, which you’ve probably seen countless times already. The main reason is simply that it fits everything I need, but also because it has an incredibly well-organized tech compartment. That allowed me to pack my MacBook and accessories without even needing a separate tech pouch.
For packing cubes I once again used the Thule Compression Cubes. They’re still my favorites because they save space and the sizes are just perfect for most trips.
Since I brought my running shoes, I also packed the Mossio Shoe Pouch. That definitely makes packing a little harder, but whenever I’m away for a few days I really enjoy going for a run, so for me it’s worth bringing them.
Clipped to the outside of the backpack is also my TRTL neck pillow… no change there.
And finally, I brought the clear toiletry bag from Tripped, which is especially important for the flight since it will actually sit inside my sling bag.
Clothing
For clothing I kept things very simple.
My running gear and running shoes go into the shoe pouch.
Then I packed:
3 pairs of merino socks
4 pairs of standard underwear
1 Unbound Merino long sleeve
Since the weather in London was actually around 15–20°C, this combination worked really well together with the white zipper jacket you can see on the right side of the photo.
Just in case, I also packed my Outdoor Research rain jacket, because everyone kept telling me that the weather in London can change very quickly.
And finally, I packed two pairs of jeans, which unfortunately you can’t see in the photo.
Tech Setup
For this trip my tech setup was slightly bigger than usual.
Because both the newsletter and the video were supposed to go live during the trip, I brought my MacBook together with the Satechi 7-in-1 On-The-Go Hub. Normally I wouldn’t bring that for a short city trip.
For charging I packed:
Epicka Universal Travel Adapter (especially important for the UK)
ESR 3-in-1 charger, which has honestly become one of my everyday essentials
Anker MagGo Nano power bank, perfect for both city use and flights
Anker USB-C cable
I also brought the Anker Nano wall charger since it’s very compact and easy to pack.
For flights I packed two small but very useful tools:
The data blockers are something I usually only bring when flying, just to safely charge devices at airports or cafés.
Toiletries
The toiletry setup was very simple.
Inside the clear Tripped toiletry bag I packed:
a normal toothbrush
deodorant
regular toothpaste
Fomin soap sheets (this time the lemon version)
I also brought the Gravel silicone bottles, filled with soap and shampoo.
And finally, I packed four electrolyte packets so one for each day.
My Favorite Part: The Extras
Now to my favorite category , the extra items.
Since I had a bit more space this time, I also brought my AeroPress, which I’ll probably use together with the friends I’m traveling with.
I also packed my JBL Clip 5, which ended up clipped to the sling bag.
For sleep I always bring:
MZOO sleep mask
These two help me sleep much better, especially in busy cities.
You’ll also see the HeroClip from Gear Aid, which is mainly useful for hanging the backpack at the airport or in the hotel.
I also packed three travel hangers, mainly for the zipper jacket and the rain jacket.
Another item I brought was the Fossil collapsible bowl. London for me is always a lot about food, and I simply don’t like throwing leftovers away — so this makes things easier.
For smaller EDC items I packed:
Pillar Go mini pill case for painkillers and basic medication
And finally, on the top left of the photo you’ll see the Hydrapak Flux collapsible water bottle, and below it the MOFT portable phone stand, which I’ve been testing recently.
So, I hope this edition gave you some helpful insights — and maybe even a few ideas for planning your next trip.
This week is actually going to be a bit of a content week here. Over the next days there will be three newsletter editions, three videos, and one review coming out.
And if you’re reading this right now, not only is this post live — but also the new video on the channel, where I talk about small and affordable travel gadgets that make some of the annoying parts of traveling a lot easier.
So I’ll see you again in two days.
And as always
Safe Travels,
Johannes
